While I’m working on my Astra Militarum army,
I broke open my old Space Marine Army from 3E/4E eta. I’m going to double stack the bases, but I was thrilled to be able to assemble 2K with what I have.

Any thoughts or feedback on how to play them is appreciated.

Looks pretty brutal honestly

Consider deep striking the assault squads to get objectives in later turns.

I need to figure out how to balance my play a little. I get a big lead in turns 1/2, then the game starts to turn in turn 3, and by the end of turn 4 I'm losing.

My Tactical Marines are fantastic for grabbing objectives but eventually I get shot up. (I played a slight variation on this list in a tournament today).

I think that a bunch is user error (learning to master the strategems, etc).

Things I found:
Keeping the Vindicator and the Predator Annihilator in reserve is FANTASTIC. I bring it out from the side in turn 2 (or back in turn 3) and just unleash death on a big target. It makes room in my deployment zone.

I think that the non-jump assault marines are just not worth it. They are fun to break out because I have the models, BUT, Chainsword/Bolt Pistol isn't effective. They aren't brutal enough in Melee or Range.

Devastators are great to shoot some big guns (particularly Plasma Cannons), and Heavy Bolters in Tactical Squads are great.

But I need something big and tanky to hold midfield objectives.

Look at the black templars' crusader squads. They make improved old fashioned combat-squad-sized tactical squads. You get power fist, pistol, special weapon AND heavy weapon for 65 points, and an ability that synergizes well with devastator doctrine and assault doctrine, rather than overlap with tactical doctrine.

Excellent scoring, screening, points-per-wound survivability and hey some firepower too. I want to take 6 of them (they're battle line!), and then add a normal list!

For thr tacticals yes you can go with crusader squads or you need to put them in more transports. If they are in danger of being shot up in later turns put them back in rhinos.

And as for big and tanky. Drop the assault squad and get yourself some terminators

Have fun playing that while you can. In a month or so half of those units won't even be in the Codex anymore.
