This was announced last week, but I haven't seen a mention of it.

A new MHW has been announced. But it's not Monster Hunter World this time. Instead, it's Monster Hunter Wilds, which was announced with this trailer -

No monster hunting in the trailer, unfortunately. Instead the trailer shows off new stuff, most of which probably takes advantage of the better specs of the modern computers. This one isn't going to be available on the Switch. We see loads and loads of creatures on-screen at the same time. MASSIVE wide open areas. A not-chocobo avian mount (presumably this means no palamutes in this game). And weather, including both a huge sandstorm, and lightning strikes.

According to the trailer, it's due out in 2025.

That duel weapon option might finally break me down to liking a MH game. I've always felt that solo play a good many cool weapons are just so slow/sluggish in the game that the combat flow never worked for me. That hot swapping could easily let me engage with the combat way more.

Also interesting to see that this title is aiming for a more mature art and character style. I wonder if this is part of them reacting to a mature adult playerbase with the core game and then having stories with the regular art style.

Won't argue with that, which is why I like the Dual Blades in Rise.

It also deals with one of my biggest annoyances about the game, which is the way that sometimes melee weapons just can't hit the monster you're fighting. Keeping some capability to hurt the target monster at all times is a big advantage.

The most recent game - Rise - was originally exclusive to Switch. So I suspect that the focus might have been on a younger audience than was the case with World.

I dunno. We'll see what the game looks like overall when it's finally released. I'm definitely encouraged by the new trailer, though.

Whenever I've tried their demos I end up with the duel blades - a LOT of the other weapons feel so sluggish to me like the character is running through deep water and everything just feels a splitsecond off.

In part I understand why - the battle system is designed with teams in mind and some weapons really are made with the idea that someone bigger than a palco is engaged with the monster to distract etc....
