So here’s the situation: friend and I went halfsies on a robust enough Necron force for it to be part of our 1850 ish point pick up games and to be a foil in our narrative events that we run. He kinda used it and helped others, but now it’s fully mine and I’ve never fielded it competitively and rarely even played against Necrons (ran over an army 4 years ago with Ravenwing bikes… I think is the last contact I’ve had).

But now I’ve got young players interested in using it (I’m thrilled) and it looks great, has light kit bashing and customization… but I need help coming up with (most importantly) a good 2k or 1.5k list to start them out with and (for the near future) what units could be added to make it better and maybe go up to 3k?

I’m probably good to buy/build/paint 3 moderately sized units or maybe a couple vehicles instead, if that can vastly improve a potential list. I could easily ask the 2 new players to each acquire a new HQ too (again, if needed). While I’m happy to provide all the things for new/interested gamers, I’ve found having them buy and paint an HQ really ups the interest and emotional investment.

This list isn't bleeding edge competitive but it'll be able to swing into pretty much anything with a decent chance to win. I tried to stick as close to your available models as I could but there are a few additions that I think necrons need. So in terms of stuff you'll need to add it's 2x Doomsday arks (might be tricky as they're so good that they're hard to obtain), 2x Cryptothralls (easy enough to kitbash), Orikan (also a nice conversion opportunity), lychguard (these things are the backbone of 10th necrons).

Techno, imotehk and thralls go with lychguard.
Orikan, royal warden and thralls go with big warrior squad
Chrono goes with small warrior squad in ghost ark (Chrono let's you do some janky stuff where you get it off the ark shoot and then get back in)
The doomsday arks are the core of your damage dealing.
Rapid ingress nightbringer to kill and cause havoc.
Scarabs and deathmarks do objectives stuff.

This is my current list built in 10th ed if my units are not annihilated off the table they stand back up. The units in the other category can be changed to fit other models you own just try to understand I was working with what is easiest to obtain for me.
