Greetings,

Just started getting into 40K. I have been reading as much as I can about the history of this game. I decided to go with the Dark Angels. I love their back history. I am putting together an army, and wanted to post it to get some suggestions. I have gone down to my local gaming store, and found that they are typically playing 1750pt games. Not sure what I should cut from the list to get to that total. An easy choice would be eliminating a Vindicator. But, I'm not sure that is the right decision. Anyway, here is the list.

HQ:
Belial, Master of the Deathwing 130 pts

Troops:
Belial's Deathwing Terminator Squad (3 LC, 1 TH & SS) 270 pts
- Sergeant (LC)
- Apothecary
- Deathwing Company Standard

Deathwing Terminator Squad (3 LC, 1 TH & SS) 215 pts
- Sergeant (LC)

Deathwing Terminator Squad (1 LC, 1 Assault Cannon) 245 pts
- Sergeant (PS, SB)

Deathwing Terminator Squad (1 LC, 1 Assault Cannon) 245 pts
- Sergeant (PS, SB)

Deathwing Terminator Squad (1 LC, 1 Assault Cannon) 245 pts
- Sergeant (PS, SB)

Fast Attack:
Ravenwing Attack Squadron 390 pts
- 6 Bikes (2 Meltaguns)
- Sergeant
- Attack Bike (Multi-Melta)
- Land Speeder (Assault Cannon)

Heavy Support:
2 - Vindicators (Dozer Blade x2) 260 pts

2000 pts

Just started trying to paint. I was originally going to play Eldar. But decided to go with Dark Angels instead. I have only painted one Deathwing so far. I haven't based it yet. Probably will do a rocky bushy type base. Would love any suggestions on painting and basing since I am new to this. Thanks for any help that can be given.

well,u just use one FA slot, there are still 2.So IMO,to split the bikers to 2 squad, or to operate the landspeeder separately may make them more flexible.

and you will love chainfists, when there are walkers in your opponent's army.

I took the 6 bikes, the attack bike, and the speeder because I figured I would break the bikes off into two groups of 3 and the speeder and the attack bike as another group. That way I could have 3 different groups of teleport homers I could use when I both Deathwing Assault and Deep Strike. My plan was to start the game with 2 Termie groups on the table, then Deathwing Assault 2 more on the first turn. Depending on how the battle was going, that would give me one more squad in reserve to drop in where needed.

If thats your first attempt at painting then i'm jelous, good job, there's loads of possibity's for base's, try painting them similar to the landscapes you play on i always think that its looks cool when the base's are the same sort of thing as the tabletop, then if you are playing on your mums kitchen table then you might want to use a bit more thought. I haven't seen moon scape base's before. As for the army list i haven't got a clue, i thought you have to have troop types, then i haven't read dark angles codex.

aaaaarrrrrrgh call the fire picket, i'm on fire

Thanks, yeah I have never painted or modeled before. Just getting into it. Sure is a lot of fun. As for the troops, Belial lets you take Terminators as troop choices. So, it seems theoretical that you could take up to 9 squads of Terminators. I'm not sure how many points that would be, but I'm betting it would be a non-standard game. I like the suggestion of moon scape. That might be kinda cool. Hmmmm, thanks for the suggestion.

Looks good. I agree with the comment regarding splitting up the ravenwing. I don't know if you have read the rules but the teleport homers on the bikers will be nice to have for ome terminators held in reserve. My only fear is that you won't have many models on the table if you leave some terminators to deepstrike.

Are you sure that dividing this attack squadron into 3 unit is legal through the "Combat squad" rule?

The paint jobs are amazing for someone who is just starting out.

Remember that Deathwing aren't segregated into assault and normal terminator squads. I'd at least put heavy flamers on them. You could also put cyclones on assault termiantors.

Yeah, you can split them up. It talks about splitting the bikes into groups of 3 under the Ravenwing Assult Squad. I don't have my codex with me, so I can't list the page.

I have Assault Cannons in most groups. Should I replace the AC with the Heavy Flamer?

Also, I need to drop this list down to 1750pts to play some of the tournements around where I live. What should I take off the list? Should I just remove 1 Vindicator? Or should I be looking somewhere else?

Thanks for the advice.

By "at least put heavy flamers" I meant that every squad needs a heavy weapon.
Assault cannons are fine. Just try to figure out a way to get heavy weapons onto the other 2 squads. (One quick and easy idea would be to replace one AC with a cyclone and giving heavy flamers to the 2 teleporting squads.

For 1750 you could just drop the vindicator duo or a termie squad.

I liked your suggestion about the Heavy Flamers. I dropped one melta gun from the Ravenwing, and put a Heavy Flamer in both CC squads.
