CrimsonFist - Its actually too small to work for 40k, as its HO scale. The people come up to the knees on marines.

FlammingGaunt - Thanks!

motowookiee - Thanks!

grizgrin - I hope you didn't buy that cheap little red one they have. We could never pull a vacuum with them. The only thing we know that works for us is the setup we have.
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v314/Foda_Bett/pump%20setup/
The rubber is soft but non-porus. The valve on the end of the pump is there so we have better control over the bleed off if the silicone starts to rise too high. The other valve is so we can hold the vacuum without having the pump running all the time. The hose is simple air conditioner hose, you can pick it up at an autoparts place. The fittings are from a hardware store. As you can tell the pump is 1/2 horsepower. I wish we had a stronger one (as we can only pull 28), but we cannot afford one.

The Dreadnote - Thanks! BTW awesome sig, I've got that shirt.

ghostmaker - No Patrick I'm not married. Thats my fathers hand. I don't want to show off the weird burns I have. That and I'm usually working when dad takes the pictures.

Deathmachine - Thanks!

Foda: Nah, I bought the 2.5 CFM U. S. General. It pulls down to 75 microns of vacuum which is about one RCH away from perfect vacuum, so I figure that will get me plenty below 29". I'll have to look for the AC hose, thanks for that. I thought about using it, but I wasn't sure if it would hold up under vacuum or if it would collapse. I was going to valve mine as well, as I don't want to be running the pump more than I have to. You say you wish you had a stronger pump, why is that? You can't be taking longer than 15 seconds or so to fully suck down with that 7 CFM rig you have. Are you having other issues?

Right now it takes about 30 seconds for the silicone to collapse but we leave it in for almost 10 minutes to try and get as many air bubbles out as we can. We assume this is the right way to do this but we don't know.
It seems we can't get to 29 with the pump we currently have, we assume a bigger one would be better but there's no telling.

Usually the pumps have a vacuum rating that they are designed to go down to. Size wise I would imagine that the unit you are using would be plenty large enough, but some pumps just are not rated to pull beyond certain amount of vacuum. Outgassing begins to become an issue, and then the internal seals can only by design take so much. But 7 cubic feet per minute is a huge volumetric capacity compared to the volume you are pulling down. The one I bought should require about a minute. I'm not sure holding vacuum that long is of any real benefit, however if it works.

Have you ever tried using a vacuum to remove air from your resin after you have poured it? I understand that the concept of pressurizing the air into solution with the resin, but how about vacuuming out the air to produce essentially the same result? No air, no pockets.

Well, that's what Forgeworld charges. Foda can't sell them. at all, or else GW would have to send him very nasty letters to protect their copywrite. There's always kitbashing them, like Foda's doing, but... Foda looks to ahve a set up those most of us would drool over. There are other, more modest kitbashes and plans available on the web. Look there.

Foda, you should change the thread title to "Look, I can't sell these, stop asking: Three Warhounds".

Agreed, i think people that ask repeatedly should be given a warning, repeat offenders be banned. Its the same question every 5-6 posts, and its irritating.
That said, in a hypothetical situation where you were allowed to sell them, how much would you want to charge for them?

Oh, and dont forget to post painted pics too.

grizgrin - the problem with vacuuming resin is the fact that resin is VERY hard to remove from stuff once it is dry. I had to take an air grinder to my pressure pot the other day to make it flat againt, so I'm really afraid what the resin would do to my chamber.

Default - Thanks for the compliments. As I've said multiple times in the thread I'm not going to be selling these models. If you want rules purchase the Apocalypse book.

Valhallan42nd - LOL! I will admit this thread has become rather humerous at showing just how many people "read the whole thread" but didn't really read it at all.

blinky - Thanks again. I'm not even going to name a hypothetical number as that will just allow people to ask more.

f74 - Thanks for the compliment!

Understand about the resin sticking. I will probably coat the underside of my vacuum cover with mold release to assist in that. Also, once you pull the air out, you should be able to release vacuum immediately after hitting max vac. At that point, you don't need the cover anymore, and most prob. you are only a couple of minutes into the curing process. The resin will be no where near de-moldable, should wipe right off with a rag.

wow thats pretty insane. i just started on 1 warhound and 4 warlord titans, so this thread has been very helpful in giving some ideas, the quality of your peices are as good/better than FW. mine are all plasticard, platic pipe and some sheet metal cut from templates that I made. anyways thanks again for the detailed post, ide like to hear more about how you make the vacuum molds/resin casts (i saw most of how you do it throughout the thread).

First time poster...long time lurker. I couldn't keep quiet about this. It's insane. And, as said by many before, it really inspires us that are either thinking about doing some custom work to get on it, or those that are currently doing custom work to 'kick it up a notch.' My only criticism is that I can't get enough. Faster man, faster! I'm really curious to see the painting techniques that you use, when you start that leg of the project.

That said, keep up all the outer box thinking, and can't wait to see updates as they come.

Just read through this long thread, and have to say I'm impressed. Very Impressed.

At first I'll admit i was a little annoyed about the weapons, as other than them, the Titans were amazing looking...but I had to stop and think about that.

The weapons were amazing...just a different kind of amazing. I think i was too stuck on GWs style and couldn't see past that, but now that I look at the models, I can say WOW!

And 4! Dear me, that is a lot of work.

Wondering if any pics or progress has been made lately?

I would pay a lot more for these than FW charge.

Not that I want them. I mean, I do. But even if you were selling them I haven't got the space. Or the cash. Heh.
