I would like to see see this as his master opus. The strain should be be so great as to cause massive heart failure. Please not yet again another NO BRAINER easy to win with army that has five great unstoppable units and the rest is garbage. I want to see a BRILLIANT piece of work that redefines how codices are written.... and while he is at I want to see all information for a unit appear on ONE PAGE again... no more of the fantasy tripe we all despise.

All rumors point to him NOT writing the new codex, which means it might be awesome (new guy not sullied by GW's lack of capability in anything besides moedle making) or sucktastic (drinking the internal koolaid on how awesome they think they are at writing codexes).
Just once I'd like to see an incredible IG codex that gives all non- IG players the willies. Give me something as powerful as the EPIC list, balanced, but a true juggernaut and not the fluff/real world whipping boy of GW. I want an army that makes orks pause and marine players run like the screaming girly men that they are.

That would indeed be awesome. I'd settle for a decent codex, where most of the fun and interesting options were viable, but a bit of IG fear would be good for us all.
Shooty Horde needs it's proper home.
(Please let it be good. I have so many ideas for IG armies but they never look like much fun to play under the current rules.)

I hear that Robin (?) Cruddace (pretty sure that's his name) is writing the new codex. The manager of my local store is an old friend of his. No new rumours, although a new Russ kit is almost a certainty.

Who's Robin Cruddace? Who is there in the studio these days? I'd rather Phil Kelly wrote it than Jervis or Alessio. Have I missed anyone out?

Beats me, although I'm sure I've heard his name mentioned before. Most of the big names seem to be ruled out by everyone here, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's someone relatively new.

You prefer finding the rules for one unit spread across three different pages in different parts of the book?

Yep. I prefer to have the descriptions of the rules with the descriptions of the units. After I have played them once or twice I know what they do so I don't want that cluttering up the pages with the points.

Yes. Okay. If you say so.
But IG are the new Eldar. No matter the content of the book, the players are one of those special cases who will never, ever be satisfied. They demand the best of everything, and will not rest until they have it. But of course, like all such humans, the goal posts are constantly moved to make room for yet more aimless whinging.

Given how old the codex is, it does not surprise me that guard players are asking for the world. We see what other army's have received and we point at the shiny new toys and say, " I WANT THAT!" I don't expect us guard players to bitch as much as ya think. If the codex is decent and has interesting options I doubt there will be an uproar. Eldar have always had a few nasty builds to them. From epic to 40k. Guard not as much. We just want to trade in our pinto for a ford focus.

No, Guard players want 3 shot lasguns (Why?) AP3 Hellguns (again, why?) and frankly, the moon on a stick.
They set totally unrealistic expectations, seemingly just so they can guarantee disappointment on arrival. It's somewhat sad really.

Actually we just want a codex that can stand toe to toe with the marine and ork codex, and has more than one build. Its like the McDonalds standard, we just want the minimum everyone else is getting.

You must be the most optimitic person on earth then. The Codex will have several units (most linked to new model kits) that are no brainers, and a stack of shocking ones.
Green Blow Fly wrote:I want to see a BRILLIANT piece of work that redefines how codices are written
No we're going to get another mixed up jumble Codex where the Wargear section spends half its time pointing us to different pages - defeating the purpose of even having a Wargear section - and we'll need to flip to three sometimes four pages to see the rules for a single unit.

yes, some people suggest it, which means all IG players are horrible whiners. C' mon, if you're going to be insulting at least try to narrow the spray a little bit. There are a lot of ideas that people have for the new book, and they're not all practical, but I think IG players want what everybody else wants: an army that can win at tournaments, and not just big games in their basements. This continued belief many people have in posting that equates pointing out phenomenally bad units with only wanting super awesome units baffles me. I've seen it in a few threads now, and I just don't get it. Should Ogryn go down to 15 pts and gain rending and eternal warrior? No. Should Ogryn be improved somehow? Yes, I think they should. I don't know if it's just trying to stir up trouble and controversy, or if people complaining really affects them that badly, or if they simply have a fanatical desire to defend GW, but I guess I don't see what's so morally wrong with pointing out that half the units in my codex suck. Not "aren't overpowered." Suck. Suck giant donkey balls.

I would love a top notch codex, with all the modern trimmings. Lots of useful units, no real stinkers. Mutiple viable builds. Tons of new units or at least unit types. And certainly bringing the army from 3rd ed into 5th. If the codex is like Eldar or Chaos I'll be very happy. If its' like Orks or the new Marines I'll be besides myself. If it's like Dark Angels, well, I'll be a little sad.

Expectations For The Guard That Are More Than Reasonable
1 - A guardsman who is cheaper than the present roughly six point model and can be upgraded (if desired) with deep strike, outflank, cameoline or close order drill option, similar to the doctrines system. Please don't tell me that an ork boy and a guardsman are equal.
2 - As few units as possible that are either priced too high to be useful or inspire the nonusage of units, as they don't
3 - The Leman Russ to be able to shoot its battle cannon and its sponsons if it doesn't move. Enough people crew it.
4 - Advisors rules that do not dictate a top heavy HQ - let priests be with the junior officers. Let the commisars go be with a junior officer or a veteran sergeant.
Expounding on point 2:
- Elite choices that are neither grossly overpriced glass hammers (Ogryns), five man suicide squads (Veterans) or Mechanicum lackeys and their servitors. I see one of these used; rules should be better designed for all.
- A priest who inspires people to fight better in more than just HtH.
- More useful psyker powers (sanctioned doesn't have mean "suck"). It doesn't need to be any ridiculous; right now, it's a 12 point excuse for a meltabomb that can pretend to be a company standard or a heavy bolter. The only remotely cool thing it does is the Curse of the Machine God power.
Oh, and a Chimera/Hellhound combo kit all in plastic. I'll pay a little more for the extra options, and I know how to magnet.

Well I was at Jervis' Seminar at UK GT Heat 2 a week and a half ago and he more or less confirmed that Phil isn't writing the new guard codex...He probably will help out as alot of the Codex work seems to be something of a cooperative effort really
To be honest I'd be just as happy if he didn't have anything to do with it....I have nothing against him personally but I am NOT A FAN of his work...Look at the tournament results from this year across the board and you'll see that Ork Biker lists or variants there of have won everything bar UK GT Heat 2....honestly its beyond a joke at this point
Now on the subject of the guard Id really love to see something special for them.....Id like a list with lots of viable but not overpowered options....A list you'd have to work to win with....I guess if they deliver that everyone should be happy

You will be able to do this, assuming you bring the correct Special Character to the table.
bryantsbears wrote:2 - As few units as possible that are either priced too high to be useful or inspire the nonusage of units, as they don't
Well everyone uses H-Vets already, and no one uses Storm Troopers. Look for a nice big flip in prices/usefulness between the two, especially with a new Storm Trooper plastic kit on the horizon.
bryantsbears wrote:3 - The Leman Russ to be able to shoot its battle cannon and its sponsons if it doesn't move. Enough people crew it.
If you read the (exceptionally lame) fluff explanation as to why they can't, firing the main gun requires the "attention" of all the crew. Why Private. Smith has to look away from his heavy bolter to watch the two people crewing the turret fire I do not know...
bryantsbears wrote:4 - Advisors rules that do not dictate a top heavy HQ - let priests be with the junior officers. Let the commisars go be with a junior officer or a veteran sergeant.
I'm pretty sure advisors will change from "Attack to units starting with HQ" to "Must attach to units, may not attach to the following..." and you just put them where you want except for the restricted units.
bryantsbears wrote:- Elite choices that are neither grossly overpriced glass hammers (Ogryns), five man suicide squads (Veterans) or Mechanicum lackeys and their servitors. I see one of these used; rules should be better designed for all.
Tech-Priests will have the pendulum swung in their favour, as will Ogryn I suspect and probably even Ratlings. Storm Troopers will as well. H-Vets will get the short end of the stick.
bryantsbears wrote:- A priest who inspires people to fight better in more than just HtH.
That would require too much depth. The Chaos Gods are now 1-dimensional emotional archetypes - quite a step away from their detailed origins - so what makes you think they're going to make a Priest any more than that something that says " RAR! MY CHAINSAW IS HUGE! RAR!" before charging in.
bryantsbears wrote:More useful psyker powers (sanctioned doesn't have mean "suck"). Agree here. The '6' power should not be a Heavy D6 Lasgun. It should be dangerous.

Unless there's a vital component for both turrets that you only get one of in each box!

I never thought I would see the day. Polonius just said "Suck giant donkey balls."
Hey, I use the language I need to get my point across. There's simply no high level way to get across how lousy they are. My Daddy once taught me that when you yell or swear all the time, nobody notices, but if you're normally soft spoken and well mannered, a few expletives have real heft. I stand by what I wrote.

Private Smith has to inscribe the Runes of Annihilation on the shell, Private Jenkins has to annoit the breech with sacred oils, and Private Brown has to chant the Dirge of Extreme Death and Destruction, while the others, y'know, load and fire the battlecannon.
